Getting around
Gare Rabat Ville connects the capital to Casablanca, Tangier, Fès and Marrakech, which makes the hotel a workable base for day trips as well as for city stays. Rabat-Salé Airport lies on the other side of the river, and the tram network links the two banks for anyone crossing to Salé for the afternoon.
Within the centre itself, most of what visitors come for is walkable, and the grid of avenues makes it hard to get properly lost. The beach lies past the Kasbah, where the Bou Regreg meets the Atlantic and the city finally runs out of walls. Travel times vary with traffic and time of day, so allow a margin around trains and flights.

Explore Rabat
Two official resources are worth reading before setting out. The Medina gives the clearest sense of everyday Rabat, its narrow commercial lanes leading down towards the river and its market streets busiest in the late afternoon. Chellah, just outside the centre, holds Roman ruins and a Merinid necropolis inside one walled site, and remains one of the quietest places in the city.
